The Wisconsin alcohol sales tax collections last year jumped at the highest rate in almost 50 years, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The nearly 17% increase in collections has been linked to an increase in alcohol use during the past year’s COVID-19 pandemic. The increase in alcohol tax collections was the largest jump since 1972, when the legal age for alcohol consumption was lowered to 18 years. The tax revenue on alcoholic beverage sales for 2021 is projected to reach about $73.8 million, a 16.6% increase from the $63.3 million collected in the previous fiscal year.
